Course Overview

The course is intended to ensure that trainees are competent to operate safely in polar waters, including understanding the polar environment, recognizing ice characteristics and hazards, applying safe operating practices, responding to emergencies in cold climates, and complying with the Polar Code and relevant safety and environmental protection requirements.

Target Audience
• Deck officers serving or intending to serve on ships operating in polar waters
Prerequisites
• Hold a Master, Chief Mate or Officer in Charge of a Navigation Watch
