Course Overview

The course aims to provide candidates with the knowledge, understanding, and proficiency required to perform the duties and responsibilities of Master and Chief Mate on ships of 500 gross tonnage or more at the management level, in accordance with the competencies specified in Table A-II/2 of the STCW Code, 1978, as amended.

Requirements

Target Audience
• Experienced Officers in Charge of a Navigational Watch who hold the required sea service (as applicable at the Maritime Administration applying to) and intend to serve as Chief Mate on ships of 500 GT or more. • Experienced Chief Mates (as applicable at the Maritime Administration applying to) who intend to serve in the capacity of Master on ships of 500 GT or more. • Masters or Chief Mates who require mandatory management-level training updates for the revalidation of their certification as Master or Chief Mate.
Prerequisites
Must have completed the following courses: • Advanced Training in Fire Fighting • Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boat, other than Fast Rescue Boat • Use of leadership and managerial skills (if applicable) • Medical Care • Radar Navigation at Management Level (Radar, Arpa, Bridge Teamwork and Search and Rescue) • Operational use of Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS)
