The course is intended to ensure that trainees are competent to transmit and receive distress, urgency, safety, and routine communications, operate and maintain GMDSS radio equipment, and respond effectively to emergency situations. Emphasis is placed on the correct use of GMDSS procedures, compliance with international regulations, and the integration of communication systems into shipboard emergency and safety operations.
