Course Overview

The course is intended to ensure that trainees are competent to operate marine radar and ARPA equipment, interpret radar information, assess the risk of collision, and take appropriate action in compliance with the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGs). Emphasis is placed on the limitations and errors of radar and ARPA, effective plotting techniques, and the integration of radar information into safe navigational decision-making.

Requirements

Target Audience
• Experienced Deck Officers at the operational level and or the management levels • Experienced Deck cadets or junior officers required to use radar and ARPA equipment in watchkeeping duties
Prerequisites
• Be an Officer in Charge of the Navigational Watch, Deck Cadet or personnel who aspire or hold the positions of Officers or Captain on fishing Vessels, Yachts, Mobile offshore drilling unit (MODU) - Mobile offshore unit (MOU) or similar with a minimum period of six (6) months of sea service. The sea service must be stamped on the seaman´s book and or on the company letters duly letterhead detailing ship’s particulars (IMO NUMBER, CALL SIGN, TYPE OF VESSEL, GROSS TONNAGE, and PROPULSION POWER).
